My work is much influenced by music
and consequently it tends towards abstraction, though I also use occasional figurative
elements as quasi-realistic asides or indicators to enhance the elusive nature of
the abstract generality. Sometimes the marks and shapes can be seen as silent, frozen
melodic fragments, while colour acts as similarly static layers of tonal blocks
or harmonies.
I find visual stimulation from various sources including those of natural and urban
landscape, the sea, gardens, doors, windows, solitude and dreams in all of which
I also find metaphors for the two contradictory dynamisms of painting - that of
looking inwards and outwards. |
